Captain and crew of Barði honored at the IceFish exhibition

Theodór Elvar Haraldsson, captain of Barði NK-120, was recently recognized as an outstanding Icelandic captain at the IceFish fisheries and aquaculture exhibition. The award also honored the entire crew of Barði for their response to an explosion and subsequent fire in the ship's engine room on June 12. The crew reacted swiftly and decisively, preventing a worse outcome.
Theodór has emphasized that the incident demonstrated the vital importance of crew safety training when a crisis arises.
"We at Alda Öryggi are proud that the crew of Barði used Alda for safety drills on board. However, when the real test came, it was the crew themselves who had to respond correctly, and the credit belongs entirely to them," says Gísli Níls Einarsson, CEO of Alda Öryggi.
The incident aboard Barði serves as a reminder that regular drills and clear procedures enable crews to respond correctly when it matters most—ensuring everyone returns home safely. We extend our sincere congratulations to Theodór, the entire crew of Barði, and Síldarvinnslan on this well-deserved recognition.
